Step Out of the Darkness with Light, Natural Colors

Light or dark flooring provides completely different looks and you should consider carefully before selecting new flooring for a home. While dark flooring offers a dramatic contrast with light interiors, these floors show the dirt, while a light flooring may not be your cup of tea. Ultimately, the decision is completely in your hands, although one of our flooring experts can always help to point you in the right direction.

Dark or light?

It’s a tough question to answer for many, but it makes a huge difference in the feel of your home for flooring. Let’s take a look at what to consider and what both have to offer for your home’s interior dećor.

Carpet is going bold, but natural muted colors will be among the top choices for wood looks. 2020 is the year of simplistic, nature inspired designs. Laminate, vinyl plank, and hardwood floor colors will be focused on the natural tones of wood, excluding the warm ones. That’s right, cool tones will remain strong even as the year goes by.

Dark tones are not completely canceled, but light tone wood looks will be one of the most prevalent 2020 flooring trends. And don’t just think of greys! Homeowners are going even lighter, focusing on blondes and white oak. These colors give the room a natural, yet modern aesthetic that can easily complement existing decor.

Is it easier to keep dark or light hardwood flooring clean?

Light hardwood floors have a distinct advantage here. They tend to show less dirt than dark hardwood floors. Because light hardwood floors show scratches less, they are generally better if you have dogs (and/or a busy household).

Dark floors do you make your space a bit smaller and light floors make the space look a bit larger. However, it is really the combo of colors on the floors and walls that give the total impression, and there is more wall space than floor space.

For those who love a home that appears immaculate, dark floors may cause an issue. Light flooring, on the other hand, will open up a room, giving the room – or a home – a much more spacious and modern appeal. It’s also ideal for dark rooms that receive little natural light.

Consider This

Dark There’s many types of flooring to choose from nowadays for dark flooring. It’s not only hardwood anymore. From laminate to luxury vinyl tile, dark flooring is available in almost all styles and patterns.

Dark floors are a great option with light walls and a well lit room. However, dark floors can make a room appear darker than it really is, especially if the room does not receive much natural light. Be sure to take note of these things in the room you wish to place new flooring.

Going Light A lighter floor style would be your best choice if your room is not well lit. Another advantage of lighter floors is its ability to hide the presence of dust, dirt and pet hair compared to darker floors.

Lighter rooms also provide your home with a more open feel and much more modern appeal.
